Black Moms Fair Real Talk

Saturday I spoke at the Black Moms Fair on a panel about motherhood, content, and community.
I’m not gonna lie… I didn’t really know what to expect going into it. It’s the first time this event has been hosted in Maryland and they choose Bowie State University at that…. a lot going on with the organizer putting things together down to the last minute so I I thought it might be a little all over the place and was holding my breath.
But it actually turned out really good.
The setup, the location, the outdoor lunch—it was a vibe. And I liked hearing different women talk about their motherhood journeys. Learning about organizations that help women who give birth, diaper assistance, clothing or the momma needs a hand program, from NuMomish, where they come to your home and help you clean up or give you time just to take a nap for FREE.
One thing that really stuck with me though…
We talked about Black maternal health, and the numbers are not great.
In 2023, Black mothers in the U.S. died from pregnancy-related causes at a rate of 50.3 per 100,000 live births, which is more than 3x higher than white women.
That part was hard to hear and knowing many women in the room had their own horrible birth stories where they almost didn’t live including Tatianna Ali.
But at the same time, there were a lot of doulas and midwives there talking about how they’re helping support moms and change that—and I liked seeing that side of it too.
When it was time for the panel, I was up there with Simone (District Motherhued), Brittany (Black Muva Convos), Sarah (4DMV Kids), and Mikea from Fox5DC. One of the questions I got was about being a content creator and still protecting your family online.
Watch the video below for my response:
Whether you are a content creator or just post your kids for fun on your page, it’s good to come up with your own list of do’s and don’t and reflect on what will work best for your families online safety.

Couples Idea of the Week: “$20 Date Night Challenge”
Set a $20 budget (or whatever feels realistic) and plan a full date around it.
Could be ice cream + a walk
Apps + mocktails, instead of full dinner (Buffalo Wild Wings has a deal for this)
Free event + dessert after

People always say dates are too expensive—this removes that excuse and makes it fun instead of stressful. Would love to hear what you did just reply to this email.
