January

Hey Locals!
Okayyyy… so how are we feeling one week into 2026? 😅
Did you actually enjoy the first week, or are we still side-eyeing our alarms and wishing winter break was longer?
Based on last week’s poll, it looks like we’re all leaning into either health or wealth this year—so be honest, how’s that going so far? I’ll go first: I have not done a single workout yet, but listen… we still have 51 more weeks, so I’m not stressing it.
This week really felt like that awkward “getting back into the groove” phase—work emails, real clothes, and the post-holiday blues kicking in. Why does coming back always feel harder than leaving?
The good news? MLK Day is right around the corner, which means a day off for many of us—and there are some great events happening to help you actually enjoy it.
Let’s get into this week though…..

Quick Winter Getaway
Snow tubing is hands-down one of my favorite winter activities—and doing it at night just takes it to another level. If you’ve never been, Snow Riders is that spot. It’s only about an hour from Baltimore or DC, so it’s an easy little getaway without feeling like a whole trip.
It’s perfect for a family outing or a fun date night with your boo. Plus, they have the longest snow tubing slope on the East Coast, so those 90 minutes are packed with nonstop fun. Trust me—you’ll leave cold, happy, and already planning to go back.
The Black Rodeo is Coming!

The Bill Pickett Rodeo is coming September 18 & 19th to Upper Marlboro, MD. Tickets are almost sold out on the main site and low on reseller sites. This is an experience everyone loves so if you have been wanting to go, get your tickets today because it will sell out in the next week or two.

Looking for Local Business Sponsors
I love sending this newsletter to all 10,000+ of you each week—and many of you have told me how helpful it is for finding quick, easy, and fun things to do locally.
Lately, I’ve also been getting requests for trusted local recommendations—
where to get your hair done, realtors you can rely on, a great dentist, or even a solid electrician.
So I’m opening the door to select local business sponsors for It’s Somewhere Local.
If you know a service-based local business looking for a new, authentic way to reach the community, have them email me at [email protected] or hit reply to this newsletter.
As always, my goal is to share businesses I’d genuinely recommend. 💛
P.S. Do you have an event or idea you want me to cover? Hit reply. I read every one.
See you there or see you Somewhere!
