January

Hey Locals!

Happy New Year! Here’s to a year of growth, grace, and good memories ahead. While the date may change overnight, real change happens through intention and consistency. This season is a reminder that even small shifts can lead to big transformations. What’s one change you’re ready to commit to in 2026?

What’s your biggest goal for 2026?

New Years Facts to Use Today:

🧹 Clean house, clean energy
Many cultures believe cleaning your home before New Year’s Day clears out bad vibes and makes room for good energy. (But cleaning on New Year’s Day? Bad luck. You’re welcome.)

🎈 New Year’s Day is actually the real fresh start
Most people think January 1st is about productivity—but historically, it’s about rest, reflection, and gathering. So if your only goal is brunch and vibes, you’re doing it right.

🕛 The first thing you do on New Year’s Day matters
Tradition says whatever you do on January 1st sets the tone for the year. So if your first act is laughing, eating good food, or spending time with people you love—that’s the energy you’re carrying forward.

So since it snowed, I guess this is showing us what we have in store for 2026, good luck this winter season.

January 1st is First Day Hikes Day

America’s State Parks & Maryland want to encourage you to get out and hike at a park on January 1st. You can go on your own adventure or join a guided hike.

See a list of all the parks and where you can hike here.

Let’s Go On a Ski Trip Getaway Together

Last Call for the Winter Getaway! Let’s hang out Feb 20th-22nd.

Money due by January 9th so get our crew to go asap! February is when those winter blues are the worst so you will want to have something to look forward to.

Create your calendar of Fun

By the end of the workday, most of us are exhausted. And before we know it, the week is over—with no real memories made.

Not because we didn’t want to have fun…
but because fun wasn’t planned.

Here’s the fix: Put fun on the calendar.

As a family, a couple, or even just for yourself, write down the things you want to do this year and schedule them in advance. We’re doing this with quarterly fun goals—things we want to learn or experience.

Example:
Quarter 1 goal: Learn how to roller skate
→ Find a class
→ Add the dates to your calendar

It can be simple too—movie nights, home-cooked meals, or monthly date nights. When it’s already scheduled, you’re far more likely to do it… even when you’re tired.

That’s how memories get made. 💛

Looking for Local Business Sponsors

I love sending this newsletter to all 10,000+ of you each week—and many of you have told me how helpful it is for finding quick, easy, and fun things to do locally.

Lately, I’ve also been getting requests for trusted local recommendations
where to get your hair done, realtors you can rely on, a great dentist, or even a solid electrician.

So I’m opening the door to select local business sponsors for It’s Somewhere Local.

If you know a service-based local business looking for a new, authentic way to reach the community, have them email me at [email protected] or hit reply to this newsletter.

As always, my goal is to share businesses I’d genuinely recommend. 💛

P.S. Do you have an event or idea you want me to cover? Hit reply. I read every one.

See you there or see you Somewhere!
